GANGES TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — A weekend search for a 72-year-old Ganges Township man has ended on a good note.
According to Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Haas, Jose Oviedo Sr. was located shortly after 9 AM on Sunday, “doing well and transported to the hospital to be checked at the family’s request.” Haas, along with fellow deputies and Michigan State Police troopers, had been looking for Oviedo ever since he was reported as missing from his home on the 1400 block of 64th Street at about 4 PM on Saturday.
It was believed that Oviedo left home at about noon, and being afflected with dementia and having difficulty walking long distances, concerns for his safety were apparently well founded. Multiple K-9 teams were called in from several jurisdictions to assist in an area search, along with Kalamazoo Air Care as an aerial observer. The Allegan County dive team was activated to check nearby bodies of water.
No other details surounding the circumstances of Oviedo’s discovery were disclosed.
