HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies had an oddball call with a good outcome just before 9 p.m. Saturday July 6th 2019. Dispatchers received several calls from people on or near Pottawatomie Bayou in Grand Haven Township saying someone had landed, via parachute in the bayou and didn’t resurface.
Police investigators found members of Sky Dive Grand Haven were conducting business at the Grand Haven Airport when one of their skydivers experienced a parachute malfunction with the main chute.
The man was able to cut his primary parachute away and deploy his reserve chute, landing safely at the Grand Haven Airport. But the main parachute fell into Pottawatomie bayou.
Bystanders recovered the discarded parachute, returning it to Sky Dive Grand Haven employees.
