HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan, Ottawa Muskegon, and Kent counties are under an air-quality alert issued by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
State officials say this means elevated levels of ozone and pollutants are present and in the unhealthy range for sensitive groups. They are urging people to avoid activities leading to ozone formation.
These activities include: refueling, or topping off when refueling, using gasoline-powered lawn equipment, andd using charcoal lighter fluid.
People can help by delaying or combining errands; car pooling; biking to work; and using water-based paints.
State officials also advice people with breathing issues and those who are typically very active out-of-doors to limit prolonged exertion today.
