LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Attorney General Dana Nessel and 49 other AG’s have reached a settlement with Equifax for $425 million due to a data breach in 2017, which was one of the largest in U.S. history.
Equifax is accused of knowing their security system was faulty and failed to fix the issues, which led to a massive data theft of names, social security numbers, and other valuable information.
Affected customers may qualify for up to $20,000 in damages, as well as a deal including free credit monitoring for up to ten years, or other options.
The settlement is said to be the “largest data breach enforcement action in history,” according to an official Michigan press release.
