HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — It’s election day in a smattering of communities today, Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019. Polls are open until 8 p.m. (Find out where you can cast a ballot here: https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us)
Voters in the cities of Grand Haven and Holland in Ottawa County, and in Allegan County’s Dorr and Lee townships, can cast ballots. Here’s what’s on each ballot:
GRAND HAVEN:Its a three-way primary for Grand Haven Mayor, with Josh M. Brugger; Geri McCaleb; Robert Monetza/
Four people are competing for a Grand Haven city council seat: Collin D. Beighley; Eric S. Brenberger; Jamie Cooper; Ryan Cummins; and Mike Fritz.
In Holland;Vicki Holmes and Lyn Raymond are challenging Wayne Klomparens for his at-large city council seat.
Dorr Townhip has a 10-year library millage proposal that officials hope will raise $254,000.
Lee Township has two millages.
One is a three-year-deal for roads, which officials hope raises $121,679.00, and a 6-year- millage for first reponsders, aimed at raising just over $91,259
Here is the complete text of each township’s ballot language:
Dorr Township library millageShall the tax limitation on all taxable property within Dorr Township, Allegan County, Michigan, be increased and the Township be authorized to levy a new additional millage in an amount not to exceed 1.0 mill ($1.00 on each $1,000 of taxable value) for ten (10) years, 2020 to 2029 inclusive, to provide funds for operating, maintaining and equipping the Dorr Township Library and for all other library purposes authorized by law? The estimate of the revenue the Township will collect in the first year of levy (2020) if the millage is approved and levied by the Township is approximately $254,000.
Lee Township road proposalShall the previous voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX Sec. 6 of MichiganConstitution on General Ad Valorem Taxes within Lee Township of 2.0 mills ($2.00 per $1,000of taxable value), reduced by required millage rollbacks to 1.9488 mills ($1.9488 per $1,000 oftaxable value) be renewed at and increased up to the original voted 2.0 mills ($2.00 per 1,000 oftaxable value) and levied for a period of three (3) years, 2020-2022, inclusive, for the purpose offunding road construction and maintenance within the township? It is anticipated that the revenuecollected by Lee Township as a result of this proposal will be $121,679.00 in the first calendaryear of the levy.
Lee Township first-resopnder proposalShall Lee Township impose an increase of up to 1.5 mills ($1.50 per $1,000 of taxable value) in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution and levy it for 6 years, 2019 through 2024 inclusive, on all taxable real and personal property in the Township, for the purpose of operating and maintaining fire protection and first responder services; thereby raising anestimated $91,259.00 in the first year the millage is levied. The 1. mill for Lee Township First Responders approved by voters in August, 2018 will not be collected.
