UNDATED, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Grand Rapids and Detroit are clarifying false information being spread on social media about active shooters in several Michigan cities.
The post states that there are 3 active shooters plus multiple other people joining what they’re calling “The Purge” where they are knocking on doors and shooting when they hear a noise or see a light turn on inside the home.
The post mentions areas including Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Lansing, and Grand Rapids.
Both the Grand Rapids and Detroit Police Departments have posted on their Facebook pages saying that the message is false and that there have been no reports of active shooters or mass spreading criminal activity.
The Detroit Police Department also wrote, “During a time where the county is mourning the loss of scores of innocent people, due to recent mass shootings, spreading false information such as this is malicious, it’s reckless and irresponsible.”
