LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Former Dean of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine William Strampel has been sentenced to jail as of Wednesday.
The former boss of convicted molester Larry Nassar was sentenced on two charges of willful neglect of duty and one charge of misconduct of a public official.
Strampel allowed Nassar to return to work despite the fact that a sexual assault allegation against him was not through with being investigated.
Strampel will serve 11 months in jail for his misconduct charge, as well as one year each for his neglect of duty charges. They will be served concurrently.
Attorney General Dana Nessel spoke about the case in a press release, saying that “Today’s sentencing sends a resoundingly clear message to public officials: If you brandish your power to demean, insult, harass, objectify, and abuse women, you will be held accountable.”
Judge Joyce Draganchuk oversaw the case, and was disappointed that Strampel did not express any remorse for his actions.
