KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A former Kent County juvenile probation officer and two other men are now facing charges for reportedly sexually assaulting a Western Michigan University student about 10-years ago.
Karl Butler, his cousin Edgar Butler, and Clifford Mathis are facing 5-counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct and 1-count of home invasion.
Prosecutors say at the time the men were students at WMU and sexually assaulted the victim in a dorm room back in February 2009.
Karl Butler was suspended from his position as soon as Kent County officials were made aware of the allegations, which were uncovered through untested rape kits.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for August 26th and if convicted all 3 of them could face up to life in prison.
