BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State Police have revealed that a Battle Creek deputy who struck and killed a boy was traveling at 66 MPH, which was almost twice the speed limit in the area.
Last May, 11-year-old Norman Hood was riding a pocket bike when he was hit by a police officer responding to a nearby break-in report.
The officer was not using lights or sirens while he was traveling, where the speed limit was 35 MPH.
A special prosecutor in Jackson County is still investigating the case, which will determine whether the officer will be criminally charged.
Meanwhile, members of Hood’s family are seeking a $25 million lawsuit against the officer responsible.
