EAST TAWAS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Flags are flying at half staff on Friday to honor a funeral of a fallen volunteer firefighter in northern Michigan.
Norman Klenow served in the Navy for 3-years and also worked for the East Tawas Fire Department for over 50-years.
Last Saturday he was providing traffic control at a crash scene when he felt ill and died of cardiac arrest a few hours later.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered today in memory of Klenow, and raised to full-staff on Friday.
In a statement Whitmer wrote, “In the course of his service, Norman Klenow was incredibly brave and selfless. Our state and our nation will be forever grateful to him for his military service and for his selfless commitment to public safety. Our deepest sympathies are with his family during this difficult time.”
