BERRIEN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man accused of murdering the husband of his lover has been sentenced to prison as of Monday.
Jeremy Cuellar was sentenced in Berrien County Trial Court to a minimum of 65 years in prison for the murder of 23-year-old U.S. Army Sgt. Tyrone Hassel III.
Cuellar and Kemia Hassel, Tyrone’s wife, were both charged with murder. Hassel had previously been charged last month been with first-degree premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Cuellar and Hassel had planned to murder Tyrone and live off of financial benefits together as a result of his death. Tyrone had been murdered in St. Joseph last New Years Eve.
For her role in the murder, Hassel faces a statutory minimum of life in prison without the chance for parole. Cuellar will be 90 years old by the time he is eligible to leave prison.
