LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says thousands of acres of land are being treated to kill mosquitoes carrying Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
MDHHS officials says pesticide applicators sprayed more than 128,000 acres overnight Monday into Tuesday. More spraying was scheduled last night, including parts of Barry, Calhoun, Cass, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties.
Health officials say the spraying is done at night as that’s when mosquitoes are most active, fish are less likely to feed at the surface, and honeybees are most likely to be in their hives.
