UNDATED, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — With an increase in holiday traffic due soon, Liberty Mutual is reminding drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.
A new study by Liberty Mutual Insurance finds that drivers still admit to using their devices while driving.
The findings of the study indicate that 67% of Millennials admitted to having their phone visible while driving, ultimately making it easier to glance at incoming calls and texts or even reach for the phone to send emails.
Liberty Mutual says that even brief glances away from the road to check phones can create dangerous situations for the driver and surrounding vehicles. When using a phone for directions, Liberty Mutual recommends securely mounting it to the dashboard so it’s close to eye level.
If a phone must be used while driving, it is said that the driver should pull over to make a call or text.
Liberty Mutual also warns that running late also leads to speeding, and drivers should leave earlier to avoid feeling the need to speed to a holiday gathering.
