UNDATED, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in four different states including Michigan have begun the “Eyes on 94” traffic safety campaign to help reduce crashes on I-94.
The campaign is a collaboration between Michigan State Police, Indiana State Police, Illinois State Police and Ohio State Highway Patrol. It is meant to bring awareness to safe driving while on the highway.
As a result, police officers will be more visible along I-94 this week.
Police say that I-94 in particular was chosen for the campaign because it has a high number of crashes, often weather-related.
The officers will be looking for instances of improper passing, improper lane usage, speeding, and following vehicles too closely, among other unsafe practices.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, as of December 3rd at 4:30 p.m., there were 889 traffic fatalities in Michigan this year.
The news comes as the Michigan Department of Transportation is releasing data on its October “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
