COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Pure Michigan Vice President David Lorenz told an economic breakfast meeting hosted by the Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce Tuesday that while their funding will run out at the end of the month, they are not dead.
Pure Michigan funding was trimmed by Governor Whitmer and was not included in the supplemental funding bills she and legislative Republicans compromised on.
Lorenz is confident some funding will be worked out but timing is critical since a deadline for summer ad buys is quickly approaching.
Whitmer said Monday in Grand Rapids that she’s cautiously optimistic something can be worked out but it needs to be among the first bills passed in January.
Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey says he supports the program but it should be funded by the tourism industry and not taxpayers.
