UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – Thursday may be the busiest day of the year at airports around the country.
The group Airlines for America says nearly three million travelers are expected to fly before the weekend, with holiday traffic congestion reaching its peak in several major cities, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. That doesn’t come as a surprise to veteran tourism observers such as Pure Michigan VP Dave Lorenz.
“The economy is doing well, and even better than that, when it comes to this, the perception of the economy is doing well, which as you know, ‘perception is reality,’” Lorenz said last week on “WHTC Morning News.””When people are feeling good about the economy, they travel. Of course, our job is to make sure that some of those people are traveling here to ‘Pure Michigan,’ and that’s why we do all we can to get out the word that Michigan is this beautiful, four-season state.”
That message is slated to be interrupted on Wednesday when funding for Pure Michigan runs out, a casualty of Governor Whitmer’s 147 line-item vetoes from September 30th that haven’t been restored yet by lawmakers in Lansing.
