BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — The Battle Creek City Commission has appointed a Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee to review how they pick city leadership.
Their current combination of a nine member commission that combines at-large and ward seats, with the appointment of the mayor by fellow Commissioners on an annual basis will be reviewed and compared to models used in other cities.
There may be advantages and disadvantages that will be weighed as proposals go throught the process.
The panel will come up with a recommendation that will be reviewed by commissioners. Voters would have final say in any charter changes.
Kalamazoo went to staggered four year terms and the direct election of the mayor a few years ago after citizen support for the concept, eventhough the actual day to day management of the city is handled by the City Manager.
