LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Wednesday was a bad day for the Governor.
For the first time, the Legislature voted to override Rick Snyder’s veto of a bill that moved up a sales tax break on automobile purchases when combined with trade-ins.
That funding would come out of the School Aid Fund.
Then the Senate voted to restore the personal exemption, and then tacked on an additional $800 dollars, which is more than the Governor wants.
Governor Snyder criticized the lawmakers for changing the tax code without a plan to replace that revenue or eliminate spending, saying it will leave a fiscal problem for the next Governor and legislature.
Kalamazoo Democrat Jon Hoadley, who sits on the House Appropriations Committee agrees with Snyder, calling the cuts fiscally irresponsible, and a symptom of election year fever.
The House is expected to take up its own version of the Senate legislation soon.
