LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan State Senate has approved its adjustment to the state’s Personal exemption tax credit, to avoid having state taxes go up when federal tax reform kicks in.
The Senate sweetened the deal by raising the exemption from $4000 to $5000, that’s more than the Governor recommended and $200 more than the House is considering.
Senators also approved a companion bill. Margaret O’Brien’s legislation to give a tax break to families with members who are children under 12, adults with disabilities or elderly parents who are unable to care for themselves.
The Portage Republican says both bills now head to the State House for their consideration.
