UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A Michigan State Police trooper was shot late this morning south of Union City.
It reportedly happened at around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday as the State Police Fugitive Warrant Team was attempting to serve a warrant.
Details of the incident are still being put together. The trooper was first taken to Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital before being flown out by an Air Care helicopter.
The condition of the trooper was not known at midday.
A large number of police officers have responded to the shooting incident.
A search for a suspect who fired the shot is continuing in the area of Arborgast and Francisco Roads. Authorities are asking residents to avoid that area while the search is being conducted.
The entire Union City Community School District was initially placed on a lockdown because of the shooting. It was lifted about a half hour later.
