KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Do you trust the water that comes from your taps? Most people are probably just fine.
That’s what everyone in Flint thought until it turned brown and began to smell.
People in Kent County’s Rockford area had no clue about P-fas.
James Clift with the Michigan Environmental Council told a gathering at Kalamazoo Valley Community College last week that folks using well water need to have it tested if they haven’t for a while, and every two years after that.
He says even if they live in a rural area, their aquifer could be contaminated by agricultural runoff.
He says municipal systems test all the time, but that water has to run through a lot of plumbing before it gets to your bathroom sink.
They found in Flint that it was the lead lines underground and in homes that were part of the problem.
Clift says a simple filter could be all you need to fix it.
Customers on the Kalamazoo Water System can have it tested for free.
