GALESBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State Police crash investigators are going through photos, piecing together interviews and comparing crumpled bumpers to recreate a couple of pile ups on I-94 involving over 50 vehicles including 19 semis to figure out who is to blame..
It began with first responders trying to remove a jack-knifed semi from a Galesburg exit ramp during the noon hour, and resulted in a chain reaction collision, investigation and clean-up that closed the freeway until early Friday evening. Michigan State troopers say there were only minor injuries.
The heavy snow is also being blamed for another smaller pileup ten miles to the west of the larger pile-up last evening, when a semi pulled to the side of the road because of whiteout conditions and was struck by another semi. Several other cars piled into the wreckage. Once again there were no serious injuries.
Once State Police sort out who is responsible for the chain reaction collision, they will mail citations for driving too fast for conditions and other violations.
