LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Senator Tonya Schuitmaker is pressuring university presidents in Michigan to make sure they are working to prevent sex abuse issues after the Larry Nassar scandal.
When they come to her Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education for budget hearings in the next few weeks, they had better be able to demonstrate that they are doing what they can to prevent sexual abuse on campus, or risk having funding withheld.
The Lawton Republican has kicked off a series of meetings to discuss current policies and what the universities can do to make meaningful changes.
She invited representatives from Western Michigan University to make presentations on Title-9 compliance and what measures should be taken to keep students safe, saying WMU is a model other schools should follow.
