BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Calhoun County Prosecutor Dan Gilbert has determined that three Members of the Regional State Police Fugitive team were justified in shooting suspect Joshuah Prough when he greeted them with a gun in either hand in late January.
The team, made up of two Troopers and a Calhoun County Deputy, had been dispatched with several felony arrest warrants to the Tree Top apartments, on West Burnham, where the suspect was staying.
They had been made aware that he was suspected of just having stolen two guns and that he had been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic who had stopped taking his medication.
Gilbert says there was an armed confrontation, the officers fired and Prough was killed.
The Medical Examiner reportedly removed 15-bullets from his body and it was determined that others passed through him.
Prough was 36.
