LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The State Senate has unanimously approved that supplemental roads funding package that will inject another $175 million dollars into construction projects this year.
The Senate has included another $2.4 million dollars for the Diasaster and Emergency Contingency Fund that State Senator Margaret O’Brien says could be used by communities dealing with this month’s flooding.
Michigan Departrment of Transportation officials say its just a small fraction of what is actually needed to maintain and rebuild the state’s infrastructure. Democrats voted for the measure, but only after trying and failing to amend the bill to add alot more money from the State’s Rainy Day fFund.
It also added a million to fund the Attorney General’s investigation of the Larry Nassar scandal at MSU.
O’Brien says, “In Kalamazoo, we are just beginning to assess the damage, but I can tell you it will be significant,” Sen. O’Brien said. “As Kalamazoo begins to recover from the receding flood waters, this funding increase could not have been authorized at a better time.”
The bills were sent back to the house, which quickly agreed with the changes, and sent it to the Governor.
