KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) –Congressman Fred Upton, who has just become co-chair of a bipartisan group tasked with finding middle ground on the school security issue says they will not be deterred by the Senate’s decision to leave the issue behind and move on to a banking bill.
The St. Joseph Republican says if anything, the shooting at Central will give their efforts momentum.
He says they will be gathering ideas over the weekend and then begin to tackle the issue on Monday and there are a lot of ideas out there.
He is co-chairing the sub group with Democrat Debbie Dingell from Detroit. ]
They will take their results to the 48 member “Problem Solvers Caucus” a group of Congressmen and women who are half Democrats and half Republican, and they will see if they can turn it into legislation.
Upton was in Kalamazoo Friday for a listening session with local healthcare, law enforcement, and agency officials to talk about the opioid crisis, that was held at the WMU Homer Stryker School of Medicine.
