LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — More hearings are expected on a proposed bill that would give the parents of a stillborn baby a one-time child tax exemption for that child.
Sponsor Mary Whiteford of Allegan County says the measure would in no way ease the pain and grief of a lost baby, but it might ease some of the financial burdens of hospital stays, prenatal care and funeral costs.
Michigan had a still born child tax credit until 2011, when it was one of a number of tax credits eliminated by the Snyder administration.
The House Tax Policy Committee is expected to debate the bill again this week.
