LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two bills that would outlaw cyberbullying in Michigan are now moving to the Senate after being approved by the House.
One bill would make threatening bodily harm or death a misdemeanor, subject to up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Additional violations could result in up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Online intimidation that results in injury could result in a 5 year sentence and bullying that results in death could mean up to ten years.
Sponsor Peter Lucido says it was a problem that needed addressing.
The bills passed Thursday 92 to 17.
