INGHAM COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) Larry Nassar’s former boss at Michigan State University has now been charged with neglect for failing to properly supervise the disgraced gymnastics doctor and for alleged criminal sexual conduct separate from Nassar.
Dr. William Strampel, the former Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine was arrested Monday and arraigned on Tuesday. Special Prosecutor Bill Forsyth outlined all the charges against Strampel during a midday news conference: misconduct in office, a five year felony, and three misdemeanors including two counts of willful neglect of duty, and one count of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct.
Forsyth claims that Strampel used his prestigious position at the college to harass, discriminate and sexual abuse women.
He claims Strampel also reportedly manipulated women into sending him pornographic selfies and failed to supervise ex-MSU sports doctor Larry Nassar who continued to see patients after a complaint was filed against Nassar and he was required to follow new protocols to always wear gloves, and to have a nurse in the room when examining patients.
Nassar did neither on numerous occasions and the claim is that Strample did nothing about it.
Bond for Strampel was set at $25,000, which he has since paid.
As a condition of bond, Strampel is barred from having contact with victims, witnesses, or any current or former Michigan State University medical students. In addition, he is not allowed to travel outside the state. If he violates any condition of the bond it could be revoked by the court.
