MADISON HEIGHTS, (WKZO AM/FM) — A Michigan Libertarian running for the U.S. Senate has fulfilled one of his campaign promises and given a homeless man a shotgun.
Or was it just to pull off a great April Fool’s gag. It would be a great news story if it was real…but it’s not.
It’s an elaborate April Fool’s Joke from decades past spruced up with all the authenticity that a professional looking website and a youtube video can give it.
The Arm the Homeless hoax first appeared in the 1993 in Columbus Ohio. A prank cooked up by a couple of Ohio State Grad students that went national.
They did it with a simple printed news release, a photo and the U.S. Mail back then.
It’s reappeared several times since. This time a fake Candidate named Brian Ellison complained that since donations were slow in coming to his crowd funding site and because the homeless man he picked didn’t have sufficient ID to buy a shotgun, he would give him one of his own.
April Fool’s.
