(WKZO AM/FM) — Today is Friday the 13th, the one day that you really want to avoid black cats, and ladders, fumbling with mirrors and sidewalk cracks.
The fear of Friday the 13th is known as Triskaidekaphobia and the general belief is that Friday the 13th is unlucky, but not for everyone.
Liz Pressman is a third degree Wiccan High Priestess, and says for pagans, and some other religions, the number represents good luck.
For Christians, the number is sometimes associated with the Last Supper, when the 13th dinner guest Judas betrayed Jesus.
It’s still tradition that many high-rises, hospitals, and airports do not use the number in identifying rooms or areas.
It’s traditionally not a good day to begin new projects, and most would not plan their wedding on this date for that reason.
Statisticians in Scandinavia expected they would find an increase in traffic accidents on Friday the 13th, when they looked back at the statistics, but discovered that so many people were staying home, huddled under the sheets, there were actually fewer crashes.
Happy Friday the 13th but be careful out there.
