PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — A Portage woman has been charged with murdering her mother, after turning herself into authorities yesterday.
TV-3 reports that 59-year-old Susan Kubicek is charged with allegedly giving her 87-year-old mother, Dorothy Allen, an intentional overdose of painkillers while she was a caregiver for the ailing woman.
Allen’s brother Steven Salik said Kubicek was turned in by others aiding in the woman’s care.
The autopsy report shows that the elderly woman had ten times the therapeutic amount of morphine in her system when she died. She was receiving palliative care as a hospice patient.
Kubicek is charged with second degree murder, and is being held without bond at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
She is scheduled to be back in court later this month for a preliminary hearing.
