WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 27-year-old man was shot dead by police early Sunday morning, near his home in the 8900 block of Brickersville Drive in the West Olive Estates’ mobile home park, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett.
The dead man is suspected of killing a man in Muskegon and wounding a woman there, Bennett said.
Police were alerted just after 7:30 a.m. Sunday by several messages from a woman who said her daughter was in endangered by her husband, Bennett said.
Police believe the woman at risk had been taken by her husband to Muskegon, where her husband is believed to have shot a 29-year-old man dead and wounded a woman, before the man brought back his wife back to the mobile home park, Bennett said.
When police arrived at Brickersville Drive, the man confronted police with a gun, then went into a residence, returning with his wife, holding a handgun to her head.
He ignored several orders to let the woman go and drop the gun, at which point police shot him, Bennett said.
Michigan State Police are investigating the West Olive man’s death; Muskegon police detectives are investigating the 29-year-old man’s death in their city.
Bennet said “names will be released when appropriate.”
