LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The hearings into the sexual abuse measures proposed as a result of the Larry Nassar scandal continues into a second week and it’s becoming clearer that this is going to be a long process and not all of them are going to survive.House Speaker Tom Leonard says they plan to avoid unintended consequences to make sure the survivors get justice. He says it could take 4 to 5 weeks to accomplish that.
Kalamazoo House Rep. Jon Hoadley will testify today on his proposal to require that colleges make a 5-year plan to address sexual abuse and that the state provide matching funds.
Hoadley thinks some of the 40-plus bills before the committee will be merged and combined, some may be rejected because they require a lot of funding, and others may be modified before they are approved.
He says all of them will get hearings.
