MILTON TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A wrong-way drunk driver is recovering from multiple injuries after causing two trucks and another vehicle to crash along M-60 in Cass County at about 4:15 Saturday morning.
Deputies say somehow the male suspect, 43 year old Tory Leroy Miller of South Bend, IN. had gotten into the wrong lane and was headed north in the south bound lane, first sending a box truck driven by 23-year-old Emily Oostema of Kalamazoo swerving into the median, to miss the wrong way driver.
Her truck overturned in the opposite lane sending another vehicle driven by Eric Missing of Granger Indiana into the median where it was damaged. Both Missing and Oostema was wearing their seatbelts.
Meanwhile back in the other lane, the wrong way driver kept going, striking a semi-tractor trailer rig, sending the big truck sprawling onto its side in the median, dumping its cargo into a farmer’s field. Barton was also belted in.
The at-fault driver had to be rescued from his heavily damaged and burning vehicle by two other motorists.
Miller is still currently receiving care at South Bend Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition, and is expected to recover from his injuries.
They believe he had been drinking and was not belted into his vehicle.
None of the other drivers were injured.
