VICKSBURG (WKZO AM/FM) — The effort to transform the vacant Vicksburg Paper Plant into a commercial development will be getting a sizable chunk of change from the Department of Environmental Quality through the County’s Brownfield Program.
The DEQ will offer a $1.25-million dollar low interest loan and a $100,000 grant to remediate contamination problems at the old industrial site.
It will also cover the cost of demolishing a portion of the plant that was damaged by fire six years ago. The plan is to convert the structures to provide housing, retail and office space with room for a micro-brewery.
