LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — A State House Committee has sent 10 Senate Bills and 18 House bills that respond to the Larry Nassar sex scandal to the full House for their consideration.
Chair of the committee Klint Kesto says it will hold more people responsible for protecting children and lay out specifics that close loop-holes that predators like Nassar exploited.
It scales back some of the more controversial senate proposals, shortening the extended statute of limitation approved by the Senate, and the window for filing suits, and dropping a measure that would have waived governmental immunity in sexual assault cases.
It adds physical therapists to the list of mandated reporters, but dropped coaches, assistant coaches and volunteer youth coaches.
Governor Snyder issued a statement supporting the package. He calls it the best possible solution to support those who have suffered following the Larry Nassar scandal and to prevent future assaults.
