HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has declared Friday, May 25, 2018, an action day for elevated levels of ozone.
Pollutants are expected to be in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range.
The affected counties: Allegan, Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Van Buren.
This alert means people and businesses are being asked to avoid activities which can create ozone, such as refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling; using gas-powered lawn equipment; and using charcoal lighter fluid.
Ways people can help include car pooling; biking to work; delaying or combining errands; and using water-based paints.
MDEQ officials suggest people who are typically active out side and those with respiratory diseases such as asthma limit prolonged outdoor exertion. Learn more at deqmiair.org.
