GRAND RAPIDS (WHTC-AM/FM) — It’s not your imagination: This year, spring took forever to happen. And when it did, sping arrived very quickly.
Meteorologists from the National Weather Service’s Grand Rapids office note just 50 days passed between the last below-freezing temperature –30 degrees, recorded on April 7 — to the first 90-plus degree temperature, 93 degrees recorded on May 27.
That’s the shortest span between a freezing temperature and a scorching one since 1911, which took 56 days. Summer is set to start on June 21, despite what the thermometer says this week.
