ALLEGAN COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man stopped on southbound US 131 early Wednesday moring on suspicion of speeding.
During the traffic stop the deputy found evidence of drug use and began to further investigate.
The deputy was assisted by a public safety officer from the Plainwell Department of Public Safety so that the subjects could be removed from the vehicle and a search conducted.
During this investigation one of the subjects became uncooperative and jumped over to the driver seat and attempted to flee, police said.
The deputy and the Plainwell office attempting to apprehend the suspect as he began to drive off, were partially in the vehicle/ Each officer received minor injuries.
The deputy went back back to his patrol vehicle to pursue the vehicle southbound into Kalamazoo County.
An Otsego Police officer located the suspect vehicle in the area of D Avenue and US 131 and attempted a traffic stop, which turned into a pursuit situation, police said.
The vehicle was located in the driveway of a private residence; the suspect fled on foot. Police searched the vecicle and found a stolen firearm and a small quanitity of drugs, according to police.
A K9 dog was unsuccessful in locating the suspect. A search of the suspect vehicle did yield one stolen firearm and a small quantity of drugs.
The suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, weighing 165 pounds, short hair, and approximately 20 years old. He was last seen wearing black shorts, a white tank top tee-shirt, and black socks.
