KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) –An Augusta man has cut a deal with prosecutors rather than face a trial by jury for being the at-fault driver in a crash that killed Linda McTague a retired Air Force Brigadier General. The 59-year-old McTague was the first woman to command a fighter squadron in the Air Force and had been working after she retired to raise money for the Talon’s Out Honor Flights.
She was riding with other members of her women’s motorcycle club when Stephen Landers came roaring out of his driveway on M-37, burning rubber in his cherry red 1965 Mustang.
He lost control and crashed into McTague’s Harley Davidson. She died from the injuries.
Investigators say the 48-year-old Landers left skid marks that were 147 feet long as he peeled out.
He agreed to plead to reckless driving causing death and in exchange will get a year in jail, rather than the up to 15-years in prison he could have gotten following a jury trial.
