LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Another state prison in Michigan will close next year after an agreement was reached in a state House and Senate conference committee.
The Michigan Department of Corrections has not decided which facility will be closed.
Spokesman Chris Gautz says the prison population has been declining, and recidivism has fallen to an all-time low in the state.
It’s estimated the closure will save the state about $20 million.
