LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan Legislature finalized work on the bike safety bills that have been kicking around Lansing since the Kalamazoo bike tragedy, with one new one tacked on right at the end.
The bills require that drivers give cyclists three feet of spacing when they pass on the right.
The second original bill requires that driver’s education courses include information dealing with pedestrians, including bikers.
Republican John Bizon of Battle Creek added a third bill this week that would also require that drivers leave 3 feet of spacing when passing a bike rider on the left.
The bills now head to the Governor’s desk.
