HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — First-time claims for unemployment benefits are down, according to the most-recent U.S. Dept. of Labor figures released toda.
The report says 218,000 Americans filed initial claims for jobless benefits last week. That’s 3,000 less-than the previous week.
States showing the biggest increases in claims: Pennsylvania, California, Florida, Texas, and New Jersey.
The biggest drops in claims were in Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Alabama.
Michigan saw an 8 percent drop in first-time claims, but overall, the state has more than 1,000 more people without jobs than the previous week, with a statewide unemployed figure at just under 36-thousand people.
