LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has tabbed a Mike Ilitch staffer as its new point man for marketing.
Doug Kuiper assumes the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the MEDC this coming Monday, July 2nd. In a statement, corporation CEO Jeff Mason said that Kuiper’s “depth of experience and knowledge of economic development will be greatly beneficial in promoting Michigan as an attractive place to live, work and play,” while “positioning the state for business growth and community development.” The new VP will be responsible for leading the MEDC in its communication strategy and execution of marketing initiatives, including the Pure Michigan tourism and PlanetM mobility campaigns.
Kuiper heads to Lansing after four years as Vice President of Corporate Communications for Ilitch Holdings, a period in which the legacy of the late pizza magnate Mike Ilitch built Little Caesars Arena in the rebranded “The District Detroit,” and had spent time in another Metro Detroit entity, Compuware Corporation, in its direct business development efforts.
Kuiper replaces Emily Guerrent, who left the MEDC on March 6 to become Michigan State University’s Vice President and University Spokeswoman in the wake of the executive upheaval stemming from the Larry Nassar scandal.
