(UNDATED) – The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening for all of southwest Michigan due to hot temperatures and high humidity.
The watch issued by the weather service did not mince words. It warned that the steamy conditions will create a dangerous situation that could lead to heat illnesses.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the low to mid 90s Friday and Saturday with heat index readings from around 100 to near a sauna like 110.
Meteorologist Ernie Ostuno says the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will mean an increased risk of heat related stress and illness, particularly because temperatures will not bring much relief at night.
He says it will be worse on Saturday than on Friday.
The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning and those taking part in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.
Do not leave kids or pets in vehicles because interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Ostuno says stay hydrated, stay in an air-conditioning if at all possible and stay out of the sun.
Make sure you check up on relatives and neighbors who may not have A.C. during the steamy conditions.
