HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Those attending Holland’s Families Belong Together rally, set to start at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holland’s Centennial Park, can expect to find a tent or two, water bottles and sports drinks — along with a shortened program, says organizer Sara Yore Vanoosterhout.
People will hear U.S. immigration law facts and procedures, as well as what they can do after the rally, she said.
Similar rallies are being held nationwide, she said, and the crowd numbers may send government officials a clear message that million of Americans don’t support this government action of separating children from parents who cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.. She said that message will be amplified by social media.
The rally’s goal, she said, is to give those who attend concrete steps to take after the rally, by building an informed community that will communicate with government officials.
But, with a heat advisory suggesting that temperatures may feel like 100 degrees or hotter, she said, she’s encourageing people who attend “to zip out of there” and to reduce the risk of heat-related illness.
