LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State University’s interim athletic director is now the permanent director of the department that is still trying to recover from the Larry Nassar scandal.
The university’s Interim President John Engler made the announcement Monday morning that Bill Beekman will drop the interim title and fill the position for good.
Beekman was on an interim basis since February after former athletic director Mark Hollis retired when allegations surfaced about Nassar’s abuse on hundreds of athletes.
Beekman has been the Vice President and Secretary for MSU’s Board of Trustees since 2008 but will step down from that role.
He has no past athletic administration experience but is an MSU alumnus and has been serving various positions at the university for about 23 years.
The athletic director oversees 25 sports teams and more than 800 MSU athletes.
