GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – There is a new leader of Spectrum Health.
The board of directors of the Grand Rapids-based non-for-profit health system announced on Tuesday that it has appointed Tina Freese Decker as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. She was promoted from executive vice president and chief operating officer to replace Richard Breon, who announced his retirement last fall and will step down on August 31st.
Freese Decker has been involved with Spectrum Health for 16 years, and in a statement, the health system said that she “developed a strong reputation for her forward-thinking strategies, sound business acumen, successful execution, authenticity and collaboration.” Freese Decker was attributed in that statement with saying that she looks forward “to implementing new and innovative ways of meeting individuals where they are on their health journey to further advance their health and well-being.”
The appointment of Freese Decker ended a national search by Spectrum Health’s Board for Breon’s successor, and she emerged from three final candidates that had met with a search committee and the full board, along with physician, community and business leaders.
