BENTON HARBOR, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The search for Miquis Lamont Jenkins has ended safely.
The one-year-old Grand Rapids toddler was reported found in the area of the Berrien County community around 3 PM on Thursday. South Bend television station WNDU reported that the child was unharmed when authorities took him out of the residence of a babysitter had allegedly taken him, with the babysitter, 19-year-old Iyesha Catherine Gibbs, taken into custody for questioning. Jenkins went to a local hospital for observation.
An Amber Alert that had been issued by the Michigan State Police shortly after 11 AM was cancelled with the child’s discovery.
According to a GRPD Facebook post, Gibbs often babysits Jenkins, and was to watch him for a few hours on Wednesday,but left the home at 1 p.m. with the child and has not been seen since.
Gibbs has connections to Grand Rapids as well as Benton Harbor. Grand Rapids detectives worked in collaboration with Benton Harbor PD in attempting to locate the child.
The case remains under investigation.
